Southampton County, Virginia
Southampton County is a rural agricultural and timber market in southside Virginia, with peanuts, cotton, grain and wood products driving the economy and four-lane US-58 providing the freight link east to Hampton Roads. The independent city of Franklin, which the county surrounds, holds most of the retail, industrial and hospital employment, and development outside it depends on where county water and sewer can reach.
