Northampton County, North Carolina
Northampton County occupies North Carolina's far northeastern corner along the Virginia border, a rural, agricultural county with Jackson as its seat and Gaston, Rich Square, and Garysburg as its other small towns. Population has declined for decades, but flat, cheap farmland and strong grid access have drawn utility-scale solar farms, and new county density and setback ordinances now shape how much farmland converts to power generation versus housing.
