Poquoson City, Virginia
Poquoson is a small independent city on the Peninsula, separate from York County for zoning, schools and taxes, and functions as a high-income bedroom community for NASA Langley Research Center, Langley Air Force Base and the Newport News shipyard. It is effectively built out, with marsh, the Plum Tree Island refuge and floodplain covering much of the land area, so activity is teardown-and-rebuild rather than new subdivision.
