New Kent County is one of Virginia's fastest growing localities, sitting on I-64 squarely between Richmond and Williamsburg, with Colonial Downs and the Rosie's gaming operation at Providence Forge as its signature commercial asset and residential subdivisions and golf communities absorbing most of the new construction. Growth is steered by where the county has extended water and sewer, chiefly the Bottoms Bridge and Route 60 corridor and the courthouse area, with the rest of the county still rural and on septic.
