Terrell County, Texas
Terrell County is one of the least populated counties in Texas, with roughly 800 residents centered on the county seat of Sanderson in the rugged Big Bend borderlands. Ranching on vast low-yield rangeland and pass-through traffic on US 90 and the Union Pacific line account for most economic activity, and Amtrak's Sunset Limited still stops in town. Over 2,300 square miles of arid canyon country make land cheap and plentiful, but water and infrastructure limit any real development.
