Nolan County, Texas
Nolan County's seat, Sweetwater, sits amid one of the largest concentrations of wind turbines in the country, and wind-energy leases and construction have become a defining part of the local economy alongside traditional West Texas cattle ranching. The annual Rattlesnake Roundup keeps Sweetwater in the news, but wind and ranching are what actually move the county's tax base.
