Irion County, Texas
Irion County is ranch country west of San Angelo, centred on the small seat of Mertzon, with sheep and cattle grazing across most of its 1,052 square miles. Oil and gas production and a growing cluster of West Texas wind farms supplement the ranching economy, and median household income of $70,000 reflects mineral-rights income layered on top of agricultural land values.
